Learn more about our free 24/7 Minecraft server hosting. Create your own free Minecraft server in just minutes.

Minecraft is a beautiful game to play together with friends, however hosting a server yourself can be difficult. To host a Minecraft server 24/7 yourself, you would need to keep a computer running 24/7, which consumes a lot of energy and results in a high energy bill! Port forwarding and static IP configuration is also no simple task for the average person.

That's why we have created a free Minecraft server hosting for you, so you don't have to deal with these problems!

How to create a free Minecraft server

Create your 24/7 free Minecraft server with Powerupstack, in just a few steps:

  1. Sign up for an account
  2. Create a Minecraft instance on the instances page
    1. Select the server software you want to run, for example Vanilla Minecraft
    2. Select the Minecraft version you want to play, for example Minecraft 1.21.5
    3. Next select the region where you want to run your Minecraft server, select the region that is closest to you for the lowest latency
    4. As final step choose a subdomain for your Minecraft server. You will use this subdomain to connect with your Minecraft server
    5. Now you are ready to create the instance
  3. You are now ready to start the instance for the first time. The first time that you start the instance you may be prompted to accept the Minecraft EULA. If you have accepted the EULA, your Minecraft server should now be starting
  4. Once your Minecraft server has started, you are able to connect using the subdomain that you selected, e.g. myserver.progamer.me

How do we offer free Minecraft servers?

You might be wondering how we can offer free Minecraft servers. Well, it's quite simple. The key lies in efficiency!

We have a freemium business model, which means that we offer both free and premium (paid) services. Our revenue is coming from the game servers that we sell. By mostly leveraging our unused compute capacity, we are able to host free Minecraft servers at a low cost that is sustainable.

Besides running the free Minecraft servers on otherwise unused compute capacity, we also deploy some dedicated infrastructure for running free Minecraft servers. Depending on our budget and demand, we can increase or decrease this infrastructure to control the costs of running free servers. That's ultimately how we can keep this sustainable for the future.

Limitations

As the Minecraft server is offered for free and with a low barrier of entry, we have applied several limitations to keep the service secure and sustainable in the long term.

  • The server will automatically shutdown a few minutes after the last player has left.
  • The maximum size on disk of the Minecraft server is 4 GB. If your server size exceeds 4 GB you will not be able to start the server.
  • Only approved mods and plugins from the workshop can be installed. You can request mods and plugins through the workshop.
  • Inactive Minecraft servers may be deleted after 3 months. We will send you an e-mail before your server will be deleted due to inactivity.
  • Depending on supply and demand, free Minecraft servers may face queueing times.
