How to Disable the Locator Bar in Minecraft
Learn how to disable or enable the locator bar in Minecraft Java and Bedrock Edition.
The locator bar in Minecraft shows the direction of nearby players, making it easier to locate friends or teammates.
This feature was introduced in Minecraft Java Edition 1.21.6 and Minecraft Bedrock Edition 1.21.90.
While the locator bar is helpful for casual play, many competitive or PvP‑focused servers prefer to disable it to prevent players from easily tracking opponents.
How to Disable the Locator Bar in Minecraft
You can turn off the locator bar using the locator_bar gamerule.
- Server console:
gamerule locator_bar false - In‑game (Operator required):
/gamerule locator_bar false
Once disabled, players will no longer see the locator bar on their screen.
How to Enable the Locator Bar in Minecraft
The locator bar is enabled by default, but you can re‑enable it at any time using the same gamerule.
- Server console:
gamerule locator_bar true - In‑game (Operator required):
/gamerule locator_bar true
Re‑enabling the gamerule restores the locator bar for all players on the server.
