Minecraft auto-start on join is unavailable from non-residential IP addresses, such as those used by VPNs and datacenters. You can still start your server from the PowerupStack website and then join it from Minecraft.
If you are using a VPN
Disconnect your VPN, then try joining the server again. This can restore auto-start if your underlying internet connection uses an IP address classified as residential. Disabling a VPN does not guarantee that auto-start will work.
If you are not using a VPN
Some internet service providers (ISPs) use IP ranges for home connections that overlap with their datacenter activities. As a result, even a residential connection can be classified as non-residential.
If your connection is classified as non-residential, auto-start will not work from that connection under this security policy. Start the server from the website instead.
Start your server from the website
- Sign in to PowerupStack and open your instance.
Select Start on the dashboard or Console page.

Wait until the server is Online, then join it from Minecraft.
If the server does not start from the website, follow the Minecraft startup troubleshooting guide.
Why this restriction exists
PowerupStack blocks auto-start from non-residential IP addresses to mitigate abuse from bots. This restriction applies to starting an offline server by joining from Minecraft; you can still start it from the website.
PowerupStack does not provide exclusions, including for affected residential connections. Managing individual exclusions is not practical at our scale.
