How to add a Minecraft Java server icon

A custom server icon adds personality and polish to a Minecraft Java Edition server. It appears beside the server name and MOTD in the multiplayer server list, helping players recognize your server.

Minecraft server icon requirements

Your Java Edition server icon must meet all of these requirements:

  • Format: PNG (.png)
  • Dimensions: Exactly 64×64 pixels
  • Filename: server-icon.png
  • Location: The server's root folder, beside server.properties
  • Supported edition: Minecraft Java Edition

Add the server icon

  1. Open your Minecraft Java server in the panel.
  2. Select Files from the instance menu.
  3. Upload server-icon.png to the server's root folder, beside server.properties.
  4. Restart the Minecraft server to apply the icon.
  5. Refresh the Minecraft multiplayer server list. The icon should appear beside the server name.

The server icon is separate from the server description. See how to change a Minecraft server MOTD to customize the text displayed beside it.
